5 Months Old 18Sep05

The summer is quickly fading to fall and the trees are beginning to show their colors. Kyle is now 5 months old. He survived his 4 month series of booster shots, with only a few days of being “grumpy”. Aside from that, Kyle received a clean bill of health from his doctor, and now weighs in at 17.5 lbs. At the advice of the doctor, we started him on solid foods. This was an interesting experience. Kyle likes his vegetables. We have given him peas, carrots, sweet potatoes, and squash. His favorites this far are the sweet potatoes. He does not like squash. In addition to this, we are mixing cereal in his formula. Next week we will let him try fruit. This seems to have helped him sleep better at night. I have included some photos of his first experience tasting baby food. Can you tell which photo shows him eating squash?

We have also been curtailing his use of the “Binkie” . He no longer gets it during the day. We will only let him have it if he wakes up in the middle of the night. This has been happening a lot less frequently, so we are confident that he will be totally weaned off of the “Bink” by the end of October.

Kyle’s Aqua Baby swim class started on Saturday 17Sep05. At first, he did not know how to react to all the water, and the feeling of playing in it. By the end of the class, he was well on his way to enjoying himself. Unlike most of the other kids in the class, he did not cry. The class meets every Saturday through the end of October. I have included a few photos of the event.

The college football season has started and we could not resist getting Kyle some Arizona State University shirts to show his team spirit. We included some photos. We also have several University of Michigan outfits. After their crushing defeat from Notre Dame, Kyle was quite upset. Every time we try to put a Michigan outfit on him, it reminds him of the Notre Dame game and makes him cry, especially after the Michigan State beat them. Hopefully they will redeem themselves and calm Kyle down…

Kyle’s Uncle Rick and Aunt Debbie were kind enough to lend us a walker that their son Blake had used when he was smaller. Kyle seems to like this, and enjoys all the buttons and sounds… Dad even likes some of the sound effects; however after a month or so, I am sure he will have a different opinion. Renee found a “Jumper” on close-out at a local store. The jumper was designed to hang from any door jamb and also has a collection of buttons and levers with assorted sound effects and “Happy jumping music”. This seems to keep Kyle occupied for good stretches of time. I have included photos of both of these.

At the end of the month, we will take our first vacation as a family to visit Petoskey in Northern Michigan, for a fall color tour. It will be a short weekend get-away at a bed-and-breakfast, but should prove to be enjoyable. Photos to follow the trip.
